According to Javelin Technologies, the three main reasons for the aerospace design industry to invest in additive manufacturing are:
- Replacing the expensive CNC production – Printed plastic parts tend to perform better technically, have better electrical insulation and weight less. Also by replacing the expensive CNC milled parts production costs reduce dramatically.
- Easily identifying design problems – Finding design problems on physical 3D printed aircraft parts becomes easier and more effective compared to using CAD models alone.
- Materials are production grade – Production grade thermoplastics including ULTEM 9085 are lightweight and able to withstand intense heat.
